Independent Living Skills Development

Nova Center's adult program serves individuals 21 years of age and older. Nova provides opportunities to enhance community involvement through volunteering at local businesses, exploring community resources for leisure as well as employment possibilities.

We provide many opportunities for the people we serve to take advantage of local resources. We have an arrangement with the YMCA for swimming, exercise, etc. Our staff focuses on increasing independent living skills, including personal care, communication, safety skills, home living and cooking skills, as well as social and recreational activities. Our on-site location offers an arcade room with air hockey, ski ball, Wii, Xbox and many other activities.

Nova also offers a variety of activities to people who, due to age, medical or physical needs, are best supported in a slow-paced, relaxed environment. Both community and facility-based activities are provided designed to enhance leisure interests, communication, and independent living skills.

The sensory room includes many sensory items such as lights, bean bags, relaxing music, and textures. The lounge provides a homey atmosphere for relaxation and quiet activities. The program provides coffee socials in the cafeteria, visits from the Library Lady to read stories, and music therapy on Wednesdays. A wheelchair bus is used for community outings.
